This specifically devised course helps prepare British students to sit this public examination. An intensive course in small groups to maximise students’ performance. The main objective of the programme is to improve linguistic abilities, whilst concentrating on aspects essential to the 'GCSE' level exam in order to make the best use of students’ knowledge. A great deal of emphasis is placed on oral participation through personal presentations and role-playing.

Course objectives and methodology

  • to prepare for the GCSE French examination
  • to communicate on every-day themes (sport, holiday, family, cinema, etc.)
  • intensive practice of linguistic skills (written expression, “essay planning”, oral / written comprehension, oral / interactive communication)
  • revision of grammar and vocabulary building
  • an introduction to French civilisation
  • use of teaching aids adapted to students’ age (teenage press, comic strips, songs, films, etc.)

Groups

  • 6 to 14* students of a similar level in French to encourage individual participation, a true group dynamic as well as individual attention from the teacher
    *Occasionally, this number may be exceeded by 1 or 2 due to an unforeseen student placement

Activities

Each week in Biarritz: 3 cultural /sporting activities in the afternoon

  • Examples: Surfing, traditional Basque pelote, mountain biking, guided tours of the town, visits to the sea or chocolate museums, cinema, etc.

Supervision

Accommodation

  • Students may stay with one of our selected host families. They are provided with breakfast and dinner on weekdays and all meals at weekends with an individual and comfortable bedroom. The accommodation rate is 28€ per day or 196€ per week. Generally, there are one or several students of different nationalities per family, except during the summer period when this cannot be guaranteed.
  • Accommodation is from the Sunday prior to the starting date of the course until the Saturday or Sunday after the end of the course. Please do not forget to send us full travel arrangements at least 2 weeks before arrival.
