This specifically devised course helps prepare British students to sit this public examination. An intensive course in small groups to maximise students’ performance. The main objective of the programme is to improve linguistic abilities, whilst concentrating on aspects essential to the 'A' level exam in order to make the best use of students’ knowledge. A great deal of emphasis is placed on oral participation through personal presentations and role-playing.

Course objectives and methodology

  • to prepare for the A-LEVEL French examination
  • to train for specific examinations (listening activities, presenting a theme, writing a letter, narrative or summary, etc.)
  • to practice linguistic skills (written expression, “essay planning”, oral / written comprehension, oral / interactive communication)
  • to revise grammar and build vocabulary
  • communicative methods, role play and use of real documents

Groups

  • 6 to 12 students of similar ability in French to ensure easy participation and a true group dynamic as well as individual attention from the teacher

 

Activities

Each week in Bordeaux: 3 cultural activities in the afternoon

  • Examples: guided tour of the town, museum visits, cinema, etc.

Each week in Biarritz: 3 cultural /sporting activities in the afternoon

  • Examples: Surfing, traditional Basque pelote, mountain biking, guided tours of the town, visits to the sea or chocolate museums, cinema, etc.

Supervision

  • students are supervised by state qualified instructors for all sporting activities and by a BLS member of staff for cultural outings

Accommodation

  • Students may stay with one of our selected host families. They are provided with breakfast and dinner on weekdays and all meals at weekends with an individual and comfortable bedroom. The accommodation rate is 28€ per day or 196€ per week. Generally, there are one or several students of different nationalities per family, except during the summer period when this cannot be guaranteed.
  • Accommodation is from the Sunday prior to the starting date of the course until the Saturday or Sunday after the end of the course. Please do not forget to send us full travel arrangements at least 2 weeks before arrival.
